"We covered a thorough overview of all topics needed for the exam, identified relevant areas and points that may not have otherwise been brought to my attention. The course was delivered in a way that was relevant and easy to understand and we were able to go back over any points that caused confusion. We had a very approachable tutor - both during the study days and in between and so provided a useful resource. The tutor had an excellent knowledge of all subjects. I was able to answer a question I came across in a past paper."

"I feel I have learned an incredible amount in the past few years and it all began with Buttercups Training, whose course I would recommend to anyone eager to work hard and learn. It was certainly a life changing experience for me, and it's never too late to learn!"
- Eileen Dodds, Medicines Management Technician

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big THANKYOU to all the team at Buttercups for their continuous support whilst I have been completing my NVQ 3. I would like to add a special thankyou to Tina Ramsey, who was assigned to assist my colleague,Beverley Payne, and myself towards the end of our course. Nothing was too much trouble and we could contact her any time of the day (or night!) with any query and she never failed to get right back to us. At times we felt very alone and I have to admit without the Buttercups support and encouragement I sometimes felt like giving up but there was always somebody at the end of the line to give me those few words of positiveness to spur me on - thanks!

Not only did we have the course to complete but our pharmacy underwent a take-over six months from our completion date so we had new computor systems and new techniques to take on board too. It was a very stressful time and knowing that there was always a friendly voice with words of encouragement at the end of the telephone was sometimes the only thing that kept us going. So my advice to other students, whatever course they are doing is make the most of your Buttercups team, they are not there to "catch you out" and no question is too stupid (no matter what you think!), so pick up the phone and don't struggle alone. Once again thank you Buttercups. My course is completed and I'm awaiting my certificate. Not only am I now better qualified but feel more confident and knowledgable in my job and it's all down to you keeping me motivated and telling me to stick with it.
- Linda Beeby, NVQ 3 Pharmacy Services Evidence Collection Student

Advice from a Previous Candidate

[Click this panel to open/close]

Sheila has completed her NVQ3 recently and has written about her experience of studying the course with Buttercups Training. Sheila has some great advice for other candidates!

"Hi to you all at Buttercups Training."

"I don’t know how to thank you all enough for getting me through this course. I finished my course on 3rd October 2008 having started it on 25th March 2008, so give or take a week it took approximately 6/7 months to complete. That included the time for work to be marked, time I had to send work back for corrections and any other feedback that was needed, so I would say 6 months really from start to finish."

"Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am 57 years old, I am married to Roy (it will be our 40th anniversary in March 2009), and we have a beautiful daughter Haley."

"I really wanted to do this course for a lot for different reasons, one being the financial side as I will get a pay rise. (Always a great incentive to get you motivated!) Also, as the only full time member of staff, I could be more involved in the dispensary on a day to day basis, so there would be greater continuity. At 57 I was not to sure if I would be able to keep up with the course work, as I really did not have a great education. I am telling you that because I now know that if you really want something you can achieve it if you really try. Of course I could not have done it without the help of my colleagues at work and without the great support of the team at Buttercups Training."

"However, I did not use the Buttercups Training team to my full advantage. At first I thought that if I asked too many questions or I was not sure of anything, they would think that I was not up to completing the course. Wrong! That is exactly what Buttercups Training are there for, and believe me no question is daft enough. I did get mixed up at times, I did need support sometimes as things were not sinking in, and all I had to do was ask. My advice to any student would be to ask a tutor at Buttercups Training instead of plodding on and not really understanding, as this only results in you having to send work back again. The team at Buttercups Training worked as one, so even if I had been asking one tutor but they were not available to speak to the next time, then there was always someone who would answer the question for me. As I worked through the course from unit to unit I really did enjoy it, yes it was hard work, but I made it harder at times by not taking full advantage of the tutors."

"Each student at some time in their course has to have a PD (professional discussion) which I thought was another trap to stop me passing my course! I had one with the log book side (the evidence collection) to fill in any gaps from all the tasks that were required of me. Then I had one with Technical Certificate side, so that Buttercups Training could assess I had the basic knowledge required to pass the course. I really was so upset by the thought of these PDs as I could do it but did not know if I could explain myself to a professional. However I could not have been more wrong, the assessors were there to encourage me to explain it in my way. I didn’t have to know the detailed ins and outs of everything, just the general understanding of the workings of the unit I had completed. When there were topics I didn’t know well they explained it to me, not in words that sometimes may go over your head, but in way that you can understand. You may not believe me but I did enjoy them. I came away feeling so much better, they were not out to get me (the Buttercups Training team), they were there to help and encourage me."

"One word of warning for you. As I went back to revise some of the work that I was having a PD on I had to try and decipher the work that I had sent in. It was like trying to read hieroglyphics! So just remember that when you are sending your work in if you can’t read it, what's it like for the tutor?"

"I will say one more thing that is important to me, to be a teacher you do have to have special qualities. To support and encourage students that are strugling to understanding things, particularly when they can be second nature to the professional but are not to the likes of myself. I thank you all for your help, I don’t like to single any one person out as I have said Buttercups Training are one team. But I must thank my two tutors who helped me through my professional discussions, Karen Francis and Shirine Haniff, I could not have done it without you. So to all the team, thank you again, take care and I will keep in touch."
