What are Key Skills?
Key Skills are the essential skills that everyone needs to succeed in education and training, in work and in life in general. Key Skills provides people with the opportunity to extend their learning and improve their job security and future chances of employment.
Why should you do Key Skills?
- To develop the skills that you need to get good grades in the qualifications for which you are studying now, whether they are GCSEs, AS or A-levels, NVQs, technical certificates or any other qualification.
- Key Skills can provide you with the basic skills that employers and universities look for e.g. communication skills, numeracy skills, problem solving skills and working in a team. They can also count towards your UCAS points, needed to gain admission to any university courses that you apply for.
- Having a Key Skills qualification is proof that you have the basic skills to get tasks done.
- Key Skills provide transferable skills, so once you have them, you can use them in different situations.
- Key Skills are a great chance to boost your CV, show your employer what you can do and learn for yourself.
Who can do Key Skills?
Key Skills can be done by anyone from school pupils to directors of organisations. There are no minimum entry requirements.
