Latest news on Pharmacy Technician Registration with the GPhC

From 1st July 2011 you must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to be able to call yourself a "Pharmacy Technician".

Currently the GPhC are accepting a broad range of qualifications considered to meet the standards of a Pharmacy Technician, when accompanied by the relevant work experience. If you have completed a technician qualification and have not yet registered with the GPhC now is the time to register!

After 1st July the only qualifications that will be acceptable to register with the GPhC are as follows:

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or NVQ3 Diploma in Pharmacy Skills, plus;
  • An accredited underpinning knowledge, such as the BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Pharmacy Services/Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science or the Buttercups Training Level 3 Technical Certificate, plus;
  • 2 years work experience under the supervision or guidance of a pharmacist for at least 14 hours per week.
